Frequently Asked Questions

What are the computer and system requirements for using DSI’s Internet system?
Data Solution’s Internet Survey System is a web-based application designed to allow for quick access and response times. The system does not require specific software installation on an end user’s computer to view or participate in Talent Management solutions.  Some basic elements that are required:
  1. A connection to the internet (dial up modem, LAN connection, etc.)
  2. Any 4.0 compatible internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape)
  3. Ability to access secured pages (SSL).  128 bit encryption preferred but 40 bit encryption supported.
  4. JavaScript must be enabled in the browser for client side validation (enabled by default in most browsers)
  5. Cookies must be enabled in the browser (enabled by default in most browsers)

We would like to host the surveys at our company; does DSI install its software at client sites?
DSI hosts its software application and delivers it to our clients using a Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery model. We host, maintain, provide daily technical operation, and support of the software for our clients. We do not distribute the software onto our clients infrastructure.

Can DSI provide project management resources for our implementation?
DSI does provide both technology configuration expertise and project management resources to assist in making your programs operational. DSI Project Managers have years of experience, advanced degrees, and familiarity with a wide range of HR measurement solutions.

Does DSI comply with European Data Privacy regulations?
DSI clients “commission” survey projects and configure our system to meet their specifications. At all times the commissioning client is responsible for data analysis, the use of survey results, and adherence to all applicable laws and regulations. It is up to each client to interpret applicable data privacy laws and specify during setup how the system will act to comply. It is our experience that each organization interprets compliance differently. Therefore, for our clients, DSI provides a number of technology configurations to comply with European Data Privacy including consent functionality, an ability to opt out of the process, providing access to view or modify data, and the ability to decouple identifying information after a period of time (i.e. 3 years). These solutions are configured at the time of system setup. We also publish our data privacy statement that describes our data handling policy.

Do DSI’s services include consulting and interpretation of program results?
DSI does not provide research or outcome consulting based on survey results.

We have a very specific report format that we have used for several years; can you match the layout and style of these reports?
DSI’s Reporting and Analytics module is designed to be very flexible. We can incorporate a wide variety of formats and historically have had great success replicating reports brought to us by clients.

Can you match our branding so that our program continues to look like it is delivered directly from our organization?
Because DSI doesn’t begin a project with a predefined survey format or report template, DSI clients define the content, rating scales, format, as well as brand, style, and logo. All of the system touch points will reflect your image.

Can you handle multiple languages?
The DSI’s system is fully Unicode compliant and supports all languages including the complex character sets utilized by languages such as China, Japan, and Korea.

What about security?
In order to provide a secure Internet experience for our customers, all data transmissions over the Internet are encrypted using 128 bit SSL and https (secured hypertext transfer protocol) standards. Our comprehensive approach to data security also includes the latest in firewall and intrusion detection technologies.

We have just completed a huge investment in an ERP system. How can you utilize that information so that we are not duplicating efforts?
DSI has experience automating data transfers, both importing and exporting, with leading ERP’s as well as homegrown HR systems. DSI typically receives organization and/or employee data to load into our system for use in survey administration, analysis, and reporting. Employee elements might include: Employee ID (or some other identifier unique to a person), first name, last name, and email address (if applicable). Additional elements and demographic information can be collected or included to facilitate record management and /or reporting efforts. We also have the ability to import/export usage data, raw or scored data, historical data, participant lists, or demographics, etc. on a project by project basis.

How long does it take to get my instrument ready to go on the Internet?
Once your content is finalized, your survey can be on the Web typically within 5-7 business days. While the total cycle time depends on many factors, our clients understand that Internet data collection can dramatically reduce the full cycle time required to collect data.

A large number of our employees do not have access to a computer; do you support paper and pencil data gathering as well?
We provide a full range of traditional paper (scan and keyed) data collection methods. We are experts in blending a multi-channel solution that can reach all of your participants and respondents.

We require both instant and paper reports; can DSI provide instant reports and deliver paper reports to our locations around the globe?
DSI’s Reporting and Analytics Module is capable of delivering instant reports and DSI’s Operations team can print, bind and ship your reports according to your project needs.

We have an extensive set of data utilized for norms and percentile calculations; can you incorporate these into my reports?
DSI’s Reporting and Analytics Module is designed to support sophisticated science and can easily incorporate historical or normative data into the overall solution.
